RURAL LIVING EDUCATION DAY

LINK TO PICTURES OF OUR WONDERFUL DAY WITH THE KIDS

And don't leave this page without looking at some of the feedback from our guests for the day (below)!

Best field trip ever!” “MMOGTA rocks!” “I LOVE my shingle and my candle and EVERYTHING!” “I thought I floated in heaven when I ate the food!” Those are just a few of the comments written in Thank You notes we received from the 572 fourth grade students who attended our 9th Annual Rural Living Education Day program on September 25, 2015. Students participated from Chesaning, Merrill, Millington, Owosso, and St. Charles Public Schools; Good Shepherd Lutheran School of Midland and Owosso St. Paul Catholic School.

At Rural Living Education Day, the students learned about the machinery, skills, and processes that provided families with food, clothing and shelter in the early 1900’s. Students experienced a broad variety of activities at 23 different stations. Some of the activities included watching grain being threshed and shelled and then ground into flour or meal. They saw different stages of lumber production, including a saw mill, veneer mill, and shingle mill. They also had the opportunity to make their own candle, drive an antique tractor, and watch a sheep being sheared.

This program is put on at no cost to the schools or students and includes a free lunch served to all involved.
It is through the generous donations of time, money, food, school supplies, and other needed material by our MMOGTA members, local businesses, and individuals that we are able to keep this program free to the schools. We want to thank the following for their continued support and sponsorship:
