The contents of the “Weekly Feature” page are provided
to you for your entertainment, amusement, and perhaps information.
Here you may find articles of interest, pictures, historical information
on the Club, or whatever shuffles to the top of the pile on our
desk. The only defined characteristic of this space is that we
will make every effort to change/replace it around the middle of
each week. Thank you for visiting, and please stop by again. Click

MMOGTA OCTOBERFEST
Technically, it is referred to as the “Worker’s Appreciation Party” and
always coincides with our October meeting, but a festival it was! We time this
annual event to occur after the field events of the year are behind us, and the
harvest is in, so to speak. It’s a day to reflect, celebrate, and enjoy
the company of our fellow member/workers. A day to reward ourselves for what
we have done, and anticipate the things we hope to do in the future.
The 2007 version of this event was just the perfect storm combination
of culinary extravagance, record breaking warm weather, and backyard
barbecue
ambience.
We have forever secured our reputation for producing the world’s best potluck
dinners, coupled with the Gengler family’s mastery of the barbecue pit,
and some fine libations from Turner’s fermentation facility, it was
the kind of day your cardiologist dreams about.
Warmed by the sun, and with our nutritional needs met and exceeded,
of course, it was then playtime. Being who we are, we have to incorporate
a little “farmy” stuff
into whatever else we may be doing, and with the season being right, we dispatched
crew to the field with knives in hand to cut the sorghum we had grown in our
crop demo area. The newly restored sorghum press was then belted up to the nearest
thing with a moving pulley, and the experiment began. The cast iron kettle was
retrieved from the barn and placed above a propane burner, as a curious crowd
began to gather. Armed with the best of intentions, an abundance of enthusiasm,
and some baling wire, the crew soon had the MMOGTA Molasses Mill up and running.
The inaugural batch netted about 2-1/2 gallons of “Tonic Grade” molasses,
which has been bottled, sealed, and taken to an undisclosed location until some
thorny patent issues can be worked out. The wooden wheel wagon is nearly ready,
and as soon as we can recruit a member with slicked back hair, a handlebar moustache,
and questionable integrity, we’ll be taking this show on the road! We
leave you with a few random photos of a very enjoyable weekend. Also note the
picture
of the recently donated efficiency log; one log=one load. (click photos to
