The contents of the “Weekly Feature” page are provided to you for your entertainment, amusement, and perhaps information. Here you may find articles of interest, pictures, historical information on the Club, or whatever shuffles to the top of the pile on our desk. The only defined characteristic of this space is that we will make every effort to change/replace it around the middle of each week. Thank you for visiting, and please stop by again. “Thanks for the Memories”

It seems a bit of good fortune to have the choice. I can go outside and do something constructive, or I can remain in the comfort of the MMOGTA Publishing Complex and rummage through some more of the old photo archives. The period of deliberation was intense, but in the end, wisdom won. Wisdom and age, at least. They say the two go together, but I have followed enough Buicks down the highway to question that theory just a bit. That can be the subject for another day. For now, it’s back into the archives to retrieve and relive a few moments from our club’s history.

As I scatter the material around me, thankful that the Mrs. is not present to witness the clutter, I am struck by how enjoyable it is to look back at these moments that would likely have been forgotten or at least obscured by the enormity of time and life, were it not for the habit of dragging a camera around with me most of the time. Most of the pictures were not of momentous occasions, or life altering events, we usually can remember those without prompting. Rather, it is the small scale treasures of a colorful scene, kids being kids, a hot summer evening, the silence of a winter day, an old building that has been outlived by its photo. The memories are the real value of the old pictures.

Beyond the membership itself, the greatest asset of the MMOGTA is the Showgrounds that we have acquired and developed over the last 3 decades. Those of us who have been around over that expanse of time can remember when it was pretty much just an empty field, except for a week or so in August. Much has changed since those days, and a lot of memories have been made in the process. As you enjoy this completely random collection of pictures from the past, you will note that things have not always looked as they do today. For instance, the two little kids in some of the photos are now 21 and 26 years old. That should give you a little perspective. Come to think about it, maybe I’m about ready for a Buick myself!
