The contents of the “Weekly Feature” page are provided to you for your entertainment, amusement, and perhaps information. Here you may find articles of interest, pictures, historical information on the Club, or whatever shuffles to the top of the pile on our desk. The only defined characteristic of this space is that we will make every effort to change/replace it around the middle of each week. Thank you for visiting, and please stop by again. Small Town, Big Weekend

For those of us here in the northern part of the Country summer is brief, but treasured. We don’t make the nightly news or headlines in USA Today, and the people that fly over “Flyover Country” won’t even see our little light on the panorama below them, but we’re here, and we kinda’ like it that way. There are thousands of small towns all across the mid-section of the country, they’re all somewhat the same, and yet each is a little unique. Places where older traditions are still honored, kids can still be kids for a while, and neighbors recognize your car when it comes up the road.

But almost every one of these little dots on the map has some claim to fame, or bit of history that becomes the focal point of their own small town festival, that gives them a sense of continuity with their past, that gives them a little distinction from the next little town up the road. This is the season, whatever the reason, for small town America to celebrate.

And so it is here locally, when Chesaning Michigan, for one week, becomes “Showboat City”. The roots of the tradition date back to a much different era, and the whole thing has evolved over the years, but the dedication of those who keep the tradition alive remains constant. It’s still a part of what of what gives our small town its own unique identity, and an opportunity for local people and organizations to be a part of something a little beyond themselves.

We feature a few images from a beautiful, early morning at the Dawn Patrol at Howard Nixon Airport, and the Showboat Parade that followed in the afternoon.
