The contents of the “Weekly Feature” page are provided
to you for your entertainment, amusement, and perhaps information.
Here you may find articles of interest, pictures, historical information
on the Club, or whatever shuffles to the top of the pile on our
desk. The only defined characteristic of this space is that we
will make every effort to change/replace it around the middle of
each week. Thank you for visiting, and please stop by again. Click

STEPPING OUT
There’s an old saying we’ve all heard, which advises us that even
the longest of journeys must begin with a single step. Another old bit of philosophy
states that, “once begun, a job’s half done”. Most of us have
learned the elemental truth of those proverbs in our own lives, usually the hard
way. Whatever the project at hand, we know that every stage of the work is dependent
upon the previous stage, ya’ gotta’ start somewhere. That first saw
cut, that first shovel-full of dirt, that first furrow to strike out a land in
a field. When you get that behind you, things can start to roll, but nothing
happens until the “first step” is taken.
With the dawn of 2011, the MMOGTA has embarked on
an ambitious journey, indeed, with the hosting of a special, 4-day
show featuring the Rumely Products Collectors
of America. An uncommonly wet spring seemed to make that first step rather
elusive this year, but a recent Wednesday night work bee at the grounds made
it clear
that there’s a whole lot of “steppin’” goin’ on ‘round
here now.
The old farm was a veritable beehive of activity,
on a beautiful July evening, as workers toiled in every corner. The
addition to the Haak Building (Mill
Barn) has been framed and roofed, creating a space for the new gang saw
display. The
new, huge stationary steam engine is up on its mounting pad in the steam
barn. The 5 new showers and the additional handicap facilities are nearly
completed.
New fencing has gone up in the playground area. New foundations are being
placed under one of the Buckeye engines. The new scale house is framed.
The wheat
to be threshed at the show has been bound and loaded on wagons. All of
this, of
course, takes place alongside the never-ending maintenance and upkeep work
that must continue regardless of events. Clearly, we are very much in the
middle of
our “busy” season.
We remind all members that not a single bit of our
growth happens by itself, every change, every expansion, every improvement
you see on the grounds,
has the handprints of your fellow members all over it. To be proud of
it…….
be a part of it.
We leave you with some photos of our progress. Thanks
to Ann and Jerry Gengler for some of the photos from the wheat harvest.
