TRACTOR PULLING - YEEHAH!!

Once or twice each month from April to September, as the sun comes up, the men and the boys and their toys come to life! Oh, let’s not forget the females and their toys also. This tractor pulling sport is not gender limited. The day begins as sleepy tractor pullers begin pulling in at the crack of dawn to obtain their favorite parking spot for the day. Some of them may have already spent the night at the showgrounds in their camping spot in anticipation of the big day ahead. There is much to do in the early morning hours as they unload their tractors, weights, tools, & egos! 8 a.m. is the magic moment when Fran’s famous kitchen opens and the masses flock that way for coffee and biscuits and gravy…a great way to start the day. The kitchen remains open throughout the day serving fresh homemade food and home-baked pies.

As the 10 a.m. starting time draws near, the announcers take their place and the spectators begin to roll in to cheer on their favorite tractor and driver. Men, women and children from near and far begin to fill the stands. It is not unusual to see a newborn baby or a 90-year old proud grandfather in the crowd. A comment overheard from a first-time spectator: This is Redneck Nascar! Well, we may not go as fast as Nascar, but we sure do have as much or more fun than Nascar!
